Did you know May 1 – 7, 2017 is Mental Health Week in Edmonton? The Canadian Mental Health Association and the City of Edmonton are partnering to raise awareness and end the stigma surrounding mental health.

Maintaining positive mental health involves coping with the normal stresses of life and how you feel, think, act and interact with your community. It’s about living well and having the tools to cope with difficult situations – each person’s path is unique, however positive mental health is within everyone’s reach.

Staying mentally healthy is like staying physically fit— it requires effort. But the rewards are worth it! Everyone has to face stresses and demands, but we all need and deserve breaks. Daily physical exercise, for instance, not only makes you stronger and more fit, but it also improves your mood and your sense of well-being. Connecting with a loved one, neighbour or mental health professional to talk is another way to improve your day. It can be as easy as saying, Hello, How Are You? to start the conversation.

Spreading positive messaging about mental health is a key component of the City of Edmonton’s Hello, How Are You? Campaign under the Urban Isolation and Mental Health Council Initiative, which encourages Edmontonians to get connected to their communities to improve mental wellness and reduce social isolation. We know that Edmontonians are less likely to experience stress, depression, loneliness and isolation if they feel connected to a supportive community.  So join us and #GETLOUD!

May 3rd: High Level bridge shines green for Mental Health Week
