First Canada, and now the world?

You heard it from our top dog himself – Mayor Iveson says vote!

Edmonton has the honour of being one of 49 finalists in the Earth Hour City Challenge, for the second year in a row! We were chosen by the World Wildlife Fund for impressive actions on climate change.

Edmonton was selected as the 2014 Earth Hour Capital of Canada. We hope to repeat this year, and maybe even take home the global title! This year, Edmonton was selected as a finalist based on our world-first industrial scale waste-to-biofuel facility, which shows our commitment to becoming the nation’s leader in reducing emissions from city operations, as well as a community league solar system installation and pilots on rebates for solar electric system installations.

Now, an expert jury will review the actions and commitments of all the finalist cities, to ultimately crown one sustainability leader per country and one global leader!

While the jury deliberates… YOU can do your part to help us win too! In addition to the jury vote, there is a people’s choice vote. So show Edmonton your love, by voting in a number of ways:

  • • Tweet what you love about our city with hashtag #weloveedmonton.
  • • Post a picture or video on Instagram of your favourite thing about Edmonton with hashtag #weloveedmonton. * Make sure your profile is public or else your vote won’t be counted!
  • • Vote by visiting www.welovecities.org/edmonton.

But hurry… voting ends on March 28! The winner will be announced on April 9 in Seoul, South Korea in conjunction with the ICLEI World Congress.
